Everyday misconduct.

Not all forms of police misconduct make the news. Police often perform illegal stops, verbally abuse civilians, and give them injuries.
None of this behavior is appropriate for a government official just because it's short or murder. But these events don't usually get academic or media attention because they're more common and don't end up in court.
That's exactly why I should study them. Not only are the people in communities that have to deal with police harassment have more experience with this kind of behavior, but justice is denied so often to these kinds of victims that "everyday misconduct" probably hurts the relationship between the police and their communities a lot more than officer-involved shootings do, since at least in one, you get redress some of the time.
