Roma was a college student at the University of Chicago who volunteered with Care Not Cops, a campaign to “defund, disarm, and disband” the University of Chicago Police Department. The group sprung up in response to the 2018 police shooting of Soji Thomas, another student at the university. The police may claim to do good, they said, but are part of a system that does the opposite.
